Christian Horner affirms Max Verstappen Red Bull contract not linked to Adrian Newey in ‘any way’

The Chief Technical Officer, Adrian Newey has been a core part of Red Bull since 2006, the Aero-genius has designed multiple World Championship-winning cars and was an essential part of the team. But, recently it was announced that the 65-year-old will officially be leaving by early 2025.

This has sparked up a lot of rumors, about whether Max Verstappen‘s contract is linked with the Briton‘s. This is because Helmut Marko recently revealed that his contract is linked to the Dutchman. So, during the press conference for the Miami Grand Prix, Christian Horner was asked whether the three-time World Champion’s contract is somehow related to Newey’s contract.

Max’s contract is going to remain confidential, but there are no clauses that link Adrian [Newey] in any way to Max [Verstappen]. They’ve enjoyed a good relationship over the years as have our previous drivers. But Max understands there’s been a planning process to this and it’s not just a knee-jerk – the structure will not change with Adrian stepping back.

Horner revealed how the Dutchman and the Adrian Newey‘s contract with Red Bull isn’t linked by any clauses or agreements. He concluded by adding how Newey has always had very good relationships with all Red Bull drivers, but his leaving doesn’t mean the team will stop functioning properly.

Ever since the internal issues and power struggles at Red Bull have ramped up, there’s been a ton of rumors regarding a possible exit for three-time World Champion, Max Verstappen. With the most recent rumor being a 150 Million dollar deal that Mercedes have offered to the Dutchman.

Moreover, even the Dutchman’s father Jos Verstappen, and the management team have implied multiple times how the internal issues aren’t good for him. But, following all these things, during a recent press conference, Christian Horner deemed the rumors as nothing more than “ramblings.”

You report those rumblings every week, but he’s still here, Max is very happy in the team, he’s got a wonderful group of engineers around him, he’s got a great car – he’s in the best car on the grid. He’s driving in the form of his life.

The 50-year-old added how the rumors are just ramblings that come out in the press every week. He concluded by saying how the the 26-year-old should have no reason of leaving the Milton-Keynes-based team due to the brilliant dynamic he’s developed over the years. However, keeping in view the unpredictable nature of the sport, the upcoming months could spring up a few surprises.
